WordPress
WordPress is one of the most popular Content Management Systems (CMSs) for websites. It is open source software, has great features and extensibility through plugins, a lot of ready made themes – both free and premium, and great documentation and community. Various options are available – standalone installation on your own server (in fact most hosting providers offer one-click installs of WordPress) or hosted and supported by a third party provider – both free and paid from wordpress.com, as well as from many other Software-as-a-service providers.
WordPress is the CMS of choice for my projects as well – Systematic Brains runs on WordPress, my other projects run primarily on WordPress, most of my clients’ websites run on WordPress as well. I either use a readily available theme (MK Fencing Academy runs a premium theme from ThemeForest) with tweaks to reflect their Information Architecture and User Experience design, or I create custom themes, as is the case with Systematic Brains, where performance optimization to the max was a requirement.
